Celebrating nine and a half years of commitment to Indigo

After nine and a half years of dedicated service to Indigo, including almost nine years as our Chair, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to James Carle (Jim) as he steps down from the Indigo Board.

Jim joined the Board in January 2017, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in children’s services, public health and policy, alongside many years of senior leadership experience across the public and third sectors.

Just eight months after joining the Board, our Chair at the time, Gerry Higgins, stepped down and Jim took on the role of Chair. He went on to lead Indigo through a significant period of growth and development, as well as one of the most challenging periods in recent history — the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jim’s public health expertise was particularly valuable during the pandemic. His knowledge and guidance helped Indigo navigate the many challenges we faced and, importantly, supported our ability to remain open and continue providing vital support to children, young people and families at a time when many other services around us were closed.

His leadership and professional guidance helped maintain the strength and resilience of the organisation, providing a strong foundation from which Indigo could continue to develop and reach more families.

Jim has also made an important contribution to our social work practice. His expertise and advice have been particularly valuable when children and families have been at their most vulnerable. His thoughtful challenge and counsel have helped ensure that children’s needs and voices are heard, their rights are upheld, and that we continue to reflect on and improve our practice.

His contribution has also supported positive changes in the way we approach social work relationships and interactions across Indigo, helping to strengthen collaborative working and embed a more robust team approach within our organisation and policies.

Throughout his time as Chair, Jim has provided valued support to our Chief Executive, offering professional challenge, advice and guidance drawn from his considerable experience. His perspective has helped strengthen our leadership and supported Indigo through periods of significant change and development.

Jim leaves the Board having made a lasting contribution to Indigo. We are incredibly grateful for the commitment, knowledge and experience he has shared with us over the last nine and a half years, and for his continued belief in the importance of supporting children, young people and families.

As Jim steps down, we would like to say a very sincere thank you for everything he has contributed to Indigo.

We wish Jim the very best of health and happiness for the future and hope he looks back with great pride on his time with Indigo and the significant contribution he has made to our organisation and the communities we serve.

Thank you, Jim. 💜
