At Indigo, inclusion is more than a value — it is at the heart of everything we do. Every child, every young person, and every family matters.
To truly support our children and young people, we know we must take a holistic, family-centred approach that nurtures not just the individual, but the entire community around them.
A family-centred approach to inclusion
Inclusion does not happen in isolation. It grows when families are listened to, respected, and given the tools they need to support their children and young people in ways that work for them.
Families are the experts in their own lives. When parents and carers feel valued, heard, informed, and supported, children and young people thrive.
As Team Indigo, we are committed to continually developing our knowledge and skills so that we can better support our families. Our vision and values remind us that inclusion is not static — it requires learning, reflection, and growth.
When practitioners are well-equipped, we can offer the right support at the right time.
This ongoing commitment to professional learning ensures our work remains compassionate, informed, and rooted in best practice.
Indigo’s Cothú journey
In 2024, Frances, our Inclusion Co-Ordinator, and Kirsty, our Loving Language Co-Ordinator, began their journey to become licensed trainers in Parenting Autistically. Inspired by the programme and driven by their passion for inclusion, they were excited to bring this powerful learning opportunity to the Indigo community.
In 2025, Nicola, our Early Years Lead Child Development Officer and one of our Inclusion Champions, also became a licensed Cothú facilitator. Together, we are now proud to deliver Cothú directly to parents and carers throughout our community.
What is Cothú?
COTHÚ (pronounced ka-hoo), the Irish word for nurture, is a unique neurodiversity-affirming parent support programme designed and delivered by Autistic trainers.
Cothú offers parents a different perspective — a deeper understanding of what it means to be Autistic, because it was created by Autistic people themselves. The programme is filled with practical tools, reflective exercises, and opportunities for personal growth.
During the five-week programme, parents and carers connect with others who share similar experiences. It provides a welcoming, respectful, and non-judgmental space where families can share their journeys, learn from one another, and build a supportive community.
The impact on our families
The feedback from families who have taken part has been truly inspiring. As a result of the programme:
-
Families reported feeling valued and understood.
-
Families gained a sense of community and felt less alone.
-
Parents and carers described stronger bonds with their children.
-
Families felt more confident in parenting Autistically.
Growing together
We are incredibly proud to be part of our families’ journeys and to offer a programme that aligns so closely with our values of inclusion, respect, and empowerment.
We can’t wait to continue sharing Cothú with our families — nurturing confidence, building community, and supporting everyone to grow together.
